P440 Sweet Spot Mastering Equalizer audio plugin.
You have very likely heard words similar to the following uttered many times about mastering: “it makes the music come to life” or “it is the final polish that transitions into something breathtaking” or “It is like… magic!”. It would be easy for some, I suppose, to pass this off as “just another EQ” and an expensive one at that. Now, I’m not a professional audio engineer, just a keen amateur producer/engineer but I can tell this is no ordinary EQ. For a start, Pulsar Modular’s exquisitely designed GUIs make me want to use them. The interface is clean and the clearly laid out controls belie the complex functionality and processes happening under the hood. There’s a learning curve to the P440 because it’s much more than just an EQ but once the fundamentals have been grasped, it’s easy to use. As I’ve said, I’m just an amateur so it’s difficult to explain just what it is that sets this apart from many other plugins of the same category. What I do know is that it sprinkles that magic fairy dust on all my mixes and, like pretty much all the other PM plugins I own, gets used on almost every project. That alone makes it worth the investment. The continuous development and improvement of these products and the excellent post sales support makes this and all Ziad’s product line excellent value for the money in my opinion.
Stellar sounding plugin!
A couple of months after I started using the P440 I posted a comment about it on Instagram saying I already used it on 90% of my masters. Ziad joked, asking why it wasn’t 100%. It’s close enough to that now.
Both ITB and analogue mastering starts with this in the processing chain to set the (elevated) tone, and some tightening and clearing. Even just the Transformer options, the HW varieties and Soul (+ more rarely O2) give the music a unique send-off into the rest of the processing. Indispensable.
A very interesting EQ / toneshaper that has made its way onto several masters. Spend some time getting to know it’s nuances. It is very different and deeper than initial appearances would lead you to believe.
